Multicore flexible cable

Multicore flexible cables contain multiple insulated conductors laid up together within a common sheath. They provide high flexibility and are used where multiple circuits must be carried in one cable.

Construction

Several tinned copper conductors stranded for flexibility; each core insulated with PVC; an intermediate layer (polyester tape or tinned copper braid) may provide screening; overall PVC sheath for mechanical protection.

Cable standards

Manufactured under IEC 60227 or IEC 60245 for multicore flexible cables; national standards such as IS 694 apply to domestic versions.

Technical specification

Rated voltage 300/500 V or 450/750 V; operating temperature range –20 °C to +70 °C/90 °C; available in 2–61 cores with conductor sizes 0.5–10 mm²; optional shielding for electromagnetic protection.

Characteristics

High flexibility; good insulation to high temperatures; flame‑retardant compounds available; resistant to oil, moisture and abrasion; cores color‑coded for easy identification.

Applications

Power cords for home appliances (heaters, ovens, air conditioners), portable equipment, control circuits and instrumentation systems where multiple conductors are needed in a single cable.
